A message from Coach Crystal: We ran at Cross Country Regionals yesterday in Corpus Christi. That is a LONG bus ride and a tough course. We did not advance to state this year, but I believe we will keep working hard and will move up next year! Our girls 2 mile times were Kyli H 15:47, Koree H 18:50, Blakeney W 19:06, Saydi H 19:24, Lauren C 19:27; Boys 3 mile - Travis Z 20:13, Kai H 22:08, Tanner W 22:21, Zack R 22:34. I’m extremely proud of these kids & I’m already looking forward to next year!

Mrs. Pecina's kindergarten class has been learning about pumpkins! They started off with a book, a pumpkin craft, and a visit to the pumpkin patch last week. They are continuing on their pumpkin journey this week. The class had a sink and float experiment, where they predicted what the class pumpkin would do...AND IT FLOATED!!! Then, they discussed the parts of a pumpkin as they carved an opening to take out the pulp and seeds. Tomorrow they will count the seeds and make a craft to label the parts of a pumpkin. Keep it up Yellowjackets!

Third through fifth grade have been learning about the types of figurative language. Today they were invited to dress up for a figurative language fashion show. Students exceeded expectations and brought their very best! We had a blast! It's a great day to be a Yellowjacket!

Testing Calendar Update for October: Please see the image for an updated testing calendar for the month of October. The changes that have occurred are as follows: (1) PSAT 8/9 rescheduled for the Spring (date is TBD after coordination with coaches, UIL, etc. to ensure no conflicts occur), (2) the PSAT/NMSQT will now only be taken by 11th graders next week, and (3) 10th grade will take a Mock PSAT in the Spring (date is TBD after coordination with coaches, UIL, etc. to ensure no conflicts occur). In preparation for all PSAT testing, PSAT study guides were given to all jacket periods that encompass 8th, 9th, 10th, or 11th graders. The 11th graders will still be taking the TSI next Thursday. Remember, our full district testing calendar can be found within the Academic Advising page on our website!

6th grade is learning how to calculate density of regularly and irregularly shaped items. Last week, Mrs. Powell let them find random items in the room, measure their mass using a triple beam balance, volume using rulers and calculate density using our “heart shaped” equation. It was fun to watch what they chose to measure and watch it “click” when they got to put their hands on it!
